The castle has a new legend

Mojitos Taqueria is a fast casual American Mexican restaurant in Bran, Romania — yes, that Bran. The one with the castle. The vampire. The legend.


We serve handmade tacos, burritos, and fresh sides — simple food made from scratch, served fast, eaten in the shadow of one of the most famous castles in the world. Dracula himself has been spotted eyeing the menu.


Our food is rooted in the Mexican traditions of the American West. It is the kind of cooking that shaped two kids growing up in Idaho, where tacos were part of everyday life long before they were trendy. It crossed an ocean with us and landed here, in Transylvania, where it turns out people were just as hungry for it as we were.

Mexican food made the American way, served the Transylvanian way. No apologies. This is honest food, made with heart, served with a side of Transylvanian folklore and a spicy bite that Dracula would respect.

Our Story

Mojitos was not planned.

 


When Carter and I immigrated to Romania, a restaurant was the last thing on our minds. Carter was building a massage therapy practice. I was focused on writing and research.

 

Food was not part of the plan.
But something was missing.

 


Mexican food had been part of our daily rhythm in the United States — weeknight dinners, celebrations, casual meals with friends. It was familiar and grounding in a way that is hard to explain until it's gone. Carter started cooking. He made tortillas, revisited techniques, talked constantly about the dishes and flavors he missed. I rolled my eyes. I thought it was a distraction.

 


Then we started listening.

 


Everywhere we went, people said the same thing. They missed Mexican food too. It simply didn't exist here. When Carter occasionally shared what he was making, the reaction was overwhelming. Other people begged for those familiar flavorful bites. The same absence we felt, others felt too.

 


Leaving home sharpens your understanding of what food actually means. It is not just sustenance. It is memory, identity, and continuity. It carries culture across borders in a way that nothing else quite can. Cooking Mexican food here — far from its origin — felt important. Almost defiant. Our small act of solidarity and preservation.

 


Mojitos exists not because we planned it, but because it demanded to be made. It is food rooted in home, respect, and lived experience. It is offered because it was missing, because people craved it, and because it deserved a place at the Romanian table.
